Rebellion’s latest installment, Sniper Elite: Resistance, offers a fresh twist on the well-loved series. Let me walk you through my review of Sniper Elite: Resistance!
This time, we’re stepping into the shoes of Harry Hawker, a Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent, whose mission runs alongside the events of Sniper Elite 5—a game I reviewed on the PS5 back in 2022. As Karl Fairbune focuses on his tasks elsewhere, players will experience a different side of the conflict, set within Nazi-occupied France. Hawker uncovers a dangerous new weapon, or Wunderwaffe, that could drastically shift the war in Germany’s favor. Teaming up with the French Resistance is crucial to thwarting this threat before time runs out.
Beyond the main storyline, there’s ample opportunity to engage with the French Resistance through Propaganda missions. These missions reveal themselves as you find Propaganda posters scattered throughout the campaign, offering quick, high-stakes objectives where stealth, speed, and precision are your greatest allies in pushing back the Nazi occupiers.
Visually engaging screenshots illustrate the game’s nuances and environments.
Players can choose from five difficulty levels: Civilian, Cadet, Sharpshooter, Sniper Elite, and Authentic. Opt for Civilian if you’re more interested in narrative and exploration rather than combat. Cadet offers a slightly tougher experience for those new to shooters. Sharpshooter provides a balanced challenge, making it an ideal choice for confident gamers. If you’re looking for a test, Sniper Elite level will stretch your skills, perfectly suited for veterans of the series. Meanwhile, the Authentic difficulty demands careful attention to realistic factors such as distance and wind direction, bringing every shot to life with increased realism.
Taking command of Harry Hawker, movement is handled with the left stick, while aiming is done with the right. Pressing the left stick lets you sprint, while the right triggers your binoculars for a closer view of your surroundings. You can tag enemies during a lookout by holding your gaze on them. Press R3 for focus mode and use Square and Triangle for interaction, including taking enemies down up close. In tight spots, a quick tap on X can help you dive for cover.

Targeting your enemies is instinctive, with L2 to aim and R2 to fire. Access the radial menu with L1 to choose your weaponry. Switch between your rifle and pistol using the D-Pad’s up and left buttons. For weapons with scopes, the D-Pad can help zero in or out. Level your aim precision with L3 to control your breathing. The R1 button lets you use items, while the Touchpad opens your map for strategic planning.
Featuring additional gameplay modes such as Axis Invasion, players can embody the sniper Jäger to hunt down other gamers using unique abilities. This mode requires a PlayStation Plus membership as it’s available online. Options to control who can invade add to the experience, allowing you to set it to invite-only or block it entirely.
Additionally, in Survival Mode, you fend off waves of enemies to protect command posts. The challenge lies in seeing how long you can stand your ground.

In Campaign Mode, you can earn Skill Points for upgraded abilities, split into Combat, Equipment, and Body. Develop your character with abilities like Back in the Fight to return to battle swiftly or Grenade Throwback to toss away nearby explosives. Enhance your resources with Equipment skills such as Scavenge Weapon Ammo, letting you gather ammo from weapons you find. Body skills deliver advantages like Health Boost 1 or Speedy Recovery for faster healing.
Sniper Elite: Resistance boasts a comprehensive trophy list with the ultimate Platinum reward. As a Cross-Buy release, the game allows for downloading both the PS4 and PS5 versions, each with distinct trophy lists. Challenges range from completing story missions to tackling specific tasks like taking out 350 enemies with your rifle or setting booby traps.

The game also includes a special mission under a separate trophy list titled Lights, Camera, ACHTUNG! Here, you face unique objectives such as defeating Hitler in the film studios, with creative tasks culminating in using an ironic testicle shot for the win. It’s an intriguing list of achievements demanding strategic play and precision.
