Hey there! We’re excited to announce a major update for No Man’s Sky today, and we’ve been eagerly anticipating the moment you finally get to experience what we’ve crafted.
Last year, we launched No Man’s Sky Worlds Part I (5.0) for players on PS4, PS5, and PS VR2, and it turned out to be one of our biggest hits. We’ve been meticulously planning the enhancements for Worlds Part II, and the long wait is finally over.
One of the main draws of No Man’s Sky is the thrill of exploration. Players love that rush of venturing into unknown worlds, landing on untouched planets. With Worlds Part II, we’ve introduced billions of new star systems and trillions of planets. This upgrade lets us stretch the limits of our engine and technology without altering the elements that fans love. So, if you’ve settled down with a carefully crafted base on your home planet, don’t worry—it’s safe. But now there are fresh worlds offering a diversity of experiences that were previously unimaginable.
As you journey to these new systems, you’ll encounter landscapes filled with new terrain, biomes, plants, and animals. We’ve crafted a new terrain system that brings breathtaking mountains, kilometers-deep oceans, and expansive caverns that exceed anything seen before.
You might stumble upon vast Gas Giants, which can be ten times larger than any planets you’ve already explored. Exploring these giants and deep seas demands advanced technology due to the challenges posed by gas storms, immense underwater pressure, and various anomalies.
The underwater gameplay has also evolved, featuring enhancements to The Nautilus submarine, and refined fishing and deep-sea diving experiences. Our new ocean technology lets water interact dynamically with its environment. Watch as rain forms ripples, or as ships create wakes overhead, while creatures and avatars move through the water, generating waves.
We’ve also revamped our lighting system. Shadows are more finely detailed, sunlight and ambient occlusion have gained sharpness, and the way sunbeams glitter through leaves and metals is strikingly vivid. Starry skies and wispy clouds now reflect beautifully off lakes and oceans.
Much of this technological innovation stems from lessons learned and efforts on our next big fantasy game, Light No Fire, which has kept our small team very busy.
Alongside the new celestial systems and cutting-edge tech, Worlds Part II offers an array of new adventures. This update unveils a comprehensive new series of quests and lore, tying together several storylines and mysteries we’ve been building for some time. Those with a passion for uncovering the secrets of the No Man’s Sky universe will find plenty to explore.
A brand-new expedition complements this substantial update, providing a structured tour of some of the top new features in Worlds Part II. The rewards for completing this journey are exceptional, including a fantastic new spacecraft that blends characteristics of a living ship and a jet fighter—it’s truly spectacular!
The Worlds Part II update is a clear message to the PlayStation community that 2025 holds exciting prospects for No Man’s Sky. Whether you’re playing on PS5, PS4, or PS VR2, there’s plenty to anticipate from our small yet passionate team. We’re thrilled to keep developing this game we all love.
Our adventure continues.
