Recently, we’ve been hearing a lot about GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs allegedly getting bricked, prompting NVIDIA to step in and see what’s going on.
NVIDIA has kicked off an investigation into these incidents after a wave of reports regarding the RTX 5090 and its Chinese counterpart, the RTX 5090D, emerged. Users have been scrambling to fix the problem through a range of troubleshooting techniques, but for many, the situation remains unresolved.
Though a handful of individuals have claimed minor successes with unconventional fixes, the vast majority still face significant issues with their GPUs. With the problem now widespread, NVIDIA has stepped in and is taking the reports seriously. According to PC Gamer, a representative from NVIDIA has stated:
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
NVIDIA Rep to PCGamer
That’s about all the details we have from NVIDIA at the moment. Still, it’s reassuring that they’re on the case. If you’re not familiar with the issue, I recommend checking out the article we released a few days back which provides a deeper dive into the details. Essentially, many RTX 5090 and 5090D models were unable to display anything on the monitor after a driver update, resorting to black screens instead.
This problem seemed to arise when users downloaded the newest NVIDIA driver update. The situation has spiraled into a complex web of challenges. Even rolling back to a previous driver didn’t help, as the GPUs failed to be recognized by the system. Some users even went as far as resetting the BIOS, but the GPUs still wouldn’t appear in Device Manager or BIOS.
While the exact cause is still a mystery, some suspect it’s related to architectural or driver compatibility issues rather than a hardware malfunction. Until NVIDIA provides an official explanation or fix, the precise solution to prevent the bricking of RTX 5090 and 5090D GPUs remains elusive.
