GameSir, a China-based company with worldwide shipping, excels in creating gaming controllers for PCs, Xbox, and mobile devices. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to review several GameSir models at Windows Central, and one standout for Xbox is the wired GameSir G7 SE. Today, I’m diving into the GameSir G7 HE, which introduces some notable upgrades from the SE, though it also unexpectedly drops a few features in typical GameSir fashion. While we eagerly await a wireless Xbox option, I genuinely think the G7 HE is the best GameSir product for Xbox to date, with a price that’s friendly for most gamers. Let’s jump into what sets the GameSir G7 HE apart.
Why You Should Trust Me
I’m Jennifer Young, a gaming contributor at Windows Central for the past two years. My gaming journey spans back to the ’90s, playing everything from Dark Souls to Petz 4, primarily on Steam Deck, Xbox, and PC. I have a penchant for collecting controllers over bags and shoes, yet only a chosen few get the coveted spot in my everyday collection. I’m passionate about sharing insights through extensive reviews on this site.

GameSir G7 HE Review: The Good
The GameSir G7 HE boasts Hall-Effect sticks, which Xbox hasn’t yet included in their controllers. The upgrade from membrane to micro-switch buttons means a significant leap in precision and durability. Plus, the G7 HE features silicone grips for added comfort.
If you’re wondering if it’s worth upgrading from the G7 SE, my initial doubts were quashed after testing the HE. It convinced me to retire my beloved G7 SE to the shelf. The micro-switch buttons are a joy—distinctly tactile and precise. GameSir previously ditched these on the SE, but their return is very welcome.
Additionally, the new silicone grips on the back enhance comfort and ensure stability during those intense gaming sessions, which I anticipate when Monster Hunters Wilds hits the shelves.
GameSir G7 HE Review: The Bad
However, no GameSir release is without its quirks. The rear button-locking feature from the SE is conspicuously absent from the HE, making accidental presses more likely without the ability to deactivate them.
The controller lacks trigger stops, which isn’t a major flaw at this price, but it’s a feature that FPS gamers might miss. In a rapidly evolving market, $50 for a wired controller seems less appealing, especially considering the increased demands for wireless functionality and higher expectations since the SE G7’s release.
Wireless gaming is becoming the norm, especially for those with active households. While this controller is perfect for my close-range gaming setup with the Series S, it doesn’t replace wireless controllers for my main TV setup.
GameSir G7 HE Review: Also Consider
Looking for a wireless Xbox controller with Hall Effect? The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro stands out as a top pick. While there are cheaper models like the PowerA Fusion Pro for $150, I suggest against it at that price.
PC gamers have more budget-friendly wireless choices. I recommend the GameSir Cyclone 2 Wireless, currently on sale, featuring cutting-edge TMR stick technology, which rivals Hall Effect in precision and battery efficiency.
GameSir G7 HE Review: Final Thoughts
Despite the missing features, the G7 HE improves on the SE in notable ways. While I’m tempted to rate it higher, the wired aspect holds it back in today’s wireless-preferred world. I remain hopeful for a affordable wireless Xbox controller from GameSir, akin to their impressive PC offerings. But until that day comes, those who enjoyed the SE G7 and don’t mind the tether will find the G7 HE a worthy upgrade. It’s undoubtedly worth a recommendation.
