Believe it or not, Starfield is still around and has just received a mod that’s actually sparked my interest enough to consider reinstalling the game. This mod has me imagining myself as an intergalactic version of Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition, and who wouldn’t find that intriguing?
The mod in question is called ‘Ship to Ship Transporter’ and was developed by Neeher. When I first discovered it, my immediate reaction was, “How did I ever live without this?” At the very least, it offers a fresh alternative to the traditional method of obliterating everything in sight and tediously docking your ship.
For those curious, this is a mod available for both PC and Xbox. As the name suggests, it allows you to teleport from your own ship’s interior directly into an enemy vessel. This nifty trick provides the opportunity to finish battles up close and personal, adding a thrilling dimension to Starfield. After all, the game can use a bit more excitement beyond the sleep-inducing chatter about Starborn that seems to drone on.
As shown in the demonstration video, Neeher has introduced two transporter habitats of varying sizes. To equip your ship with one of these, you’ll need to achieve rank one in the starship design skill. Once you’ve acquired and installed the transporter at the Deimos staryard, the next battle you engage in could allow you to teleport straight into an opponent’s ship once their shields are down. Imagine phasing right into someone’s sleeping quarters intent on taking out the crew. As long as the entire group isn’t there to greet you upon arrival, you might just win the day and claim some loot.
On the other hand, you might consider simply making your presence known with a friendly hello. Compliment them on their ship’s interior and the clever placement of their anti-gravity toilet. And, if you’re feeling bold, maybe start a conversation about the genius of Todd Howard. Of course, this approach could lead to an awkward altercation, but it’s worth a try.
Even if this mod doesn’t capture your interest, it could be a neat distraction if you’re not already knee-deep in another epic RPG like Avowed. Incidentally, I’ve just embarked on a unique speedrun challenge for that one, focusing on bare bum any% completion.
In any case, this mod certainly adds an exciting twist to Starfield that’s hard to ignore.
