For the second week in a row, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has taken the top position on the UK’s physical game sales chart, marking a solid comeback for Ubisoft. Despite some bumps leading up to its launch, this latest installment in the long-running series has become quite the success story since debuting on March 20, with sales climbing steadily on a global scale.
Fans have long anticipated an Assassin’s Creed adventure set in Japan, and despite facing delays and some controversy, Shadows has been greeted warmly, even surpassing the launch day player counts achieved by both Origins and Odyssey. Ubisoft is staying proactive, assuring gamers that continuous updates and patches are on the horizon. Also sparking anticipation is the game’s first expansion, Claws of Awaji, slated for a 2025 release. Interestingly, in an age where digital sales are king, many fans are choosing to grab physical copies of this exciting new title.
Push Square reported that Assassin’s Creed Shadows dominated the latest UK physical sales chart, with a whopping 84 percent of these sales being for the PlayStation 5. The game has really resonated with UK audiences, outselling high-profile titles like Star Wars Outlaws in just a week, as well as outpacing Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds. Meanwhile, other new titles are also showing impressive sales. The First Berserker: Khazan has made its presence known in sixth place, and Rebellion Developments’ Atomfall has quickly climbed to second place since its March 27 release. It remains to be seen if Assassin’s Creed Shadows can maintain its momentum into yet another week, but Ubisoft must be thrilled with how well it’s doing so far.
One week post-launch, Ubisoft happily revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had already amassed over three million players. The game claimed the second spot for day-one sales in franchise history, just trailing behind Valhalla, and it marked Ubisoft’s biggest PlayStation Store launch day. While more precise sales data will likely roll out when Ubisoft issues its next quarterly financial report, the anticipation is already building for more content. Claws of Awaji, promising a darker vibe compared to the main game, is set to expand the players’ experience with an additional 10 hours of gameplay and new weapons for the protagonists. For those who pre-ordered the game, the DLC will be on the house.
Released on March 20, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows carries an ESRB rating of Mature 17+ due to its elements of blood and gore, intense violence, and language, setting a grim yet thrilling playground for mature audiences to explore.
