Dark Horse and Naughty Dog have teamed up to create a unique collectible that might just raise some eyebrows: a limited-edition bust of Joel from The Last of Us, captured in a moment of intense focus as he brandishes a brick. Standing at 8.5 inches tall and priced at $149.99, this piece isn’t exactly winning hearts.
The promotional description paints a vivid picture of Joel, complete with his rugged green flannel and a weathered backpack. The text takes itself a tad too seriously for what ultimately feels like a quirky collector’s item. It states, “Armed with the trusty brick, Joel appears battle-scarred but resolute. In his quest for survival, this humble object serves both as a weapon and a cunning means of distraction.”
But here’s the real question: Who exactly is this for? Even the most dedicated The Last of Us enthusiasts, whom I admittedly don’t envy meeting, might hesitate to showcase this stern, whiskered figure at home. Imagine placing it alongside family snapshots or that charming painting you picked up from the farmer’s market just last week. The game is packed with its fair share of violence, perhaps sometimes exaggeratedly so, but picturing our friend Bricky Joel threatening to topple grandma’s urn feels a step too far, doesn’t it?
Yet, in comparison, it’s not quite as questionable as the “Ellie with switchblade” bust released last year by the same duo, which, surprisingly, sold out. Personally, I don’t consider myself a snob, but if I visit your home and spot either of these frowning figures anywhere but in a teenager’s room, rest assured I’ll find a reason to duck out early.
