Imagine stepping into the eerie, war-torn landscapes that define “Trench Tales,” a unique third-person horror shooter crafted by a lone developer. This game echoes the suspenseful aura of “Resident Evil,” yet its distinct World War 1 backdrop and emphasis on dynamic gunplay make it particularly appealing to fans of “Battlefield 1” or “Sniper Elite.” Right now, the game’s creator is inviting new playtesters to help polish this intriguing experience.
In this alternate history setting at the conclusion of the First World War, “Trench Tales” thrusts you into the role of a lone soldier navigating the desolate and haunted areas of Verden, on a quest for answers and an exit. While many war games are deeply rooted in realism, this game introduces mysterious forces and powers. The enemy soldiers you encounter aren’t merely adversaries locked in battle; they’ve been reanimated by a malevolent energy, creating a menacing army of undead troops and formidable warlords.
Besides wielding customizable WW1 firearms, “Trench Tales” empowers you with supernatural abilities drawn from its dark magic system. You can heal more swiftly, detect and track enemies through walls, or slow down time to gain an edge in combat by tapping into this mystical energy.
Although it may not quite match the grand scale of the “Battlefield” series, “Trench Tales” does incorporate elements of environmental destruction. You can deploy explosives to blow open a wall, providing a strategic sight line or escape route. Just be sure to remain stealthy, as the sound might attract unwanted attention.
The developer, Talking Drums, which astonishingly operates as a solo effort, has already conducted an initial playtest for “Trench Tales” and is now preparing for another round. If you were part of the first session, your access is already secured for the upcoming test. However, new players are welcome to join by requesting access via the game’s Steam page.
The next playtest of “Trench Tales” kicks off on Friday, April 18, running through an unspecified date “next week,” as announced by Talking Drums.
