In late April 2025, the Turok: Dinosaur Hunter remaster received a fresh update, boasting over 40 changes spanning audio enhancements, gameplay balancing, and crucial bug fixes. PC enthusiasts can also revel in upgraded modding support with this latest version.
Nightdive Studios, celebrated for revamping classic games, has handled the remastering of three Turok titles so far. The first, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, originally launched on PC in 2015 and subsequently reached Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2018 and 2019. By early 2021, it was also available on the PlayStation Store.
This timeless ’90s shooter has just been updated across all platforms. The Steam patch notes list 42 updates, ranging from quality-of-life improvements to bug fixes and audio enhancements. These tweaks aim to bring the remaster even closer to the 1997 original.
One notable improvement lets players adjust the line thickness in the automapping feature, now rendering lines as quadrangles. The update also addressed Vulkan graphics API syncing issues and refined game logic to reduce stuttering.
PC users will enjoy a revamped Steam Workshop mod menu, now less cluttered with unrelated maps. Another handy feature pauses game rendering when Turok is minimized. Nightdive seized this opportunity to enhance the remaster’s moddability with bug fixes and fresh features in modding scripts. Moreover, an issue affecting the cheat for tiny enemies with big heads has been fixed for bosses and Turok, with Gallery and Credits cheats now disabled outside the main menu.
Though regular updates for Turok had become sparse, this April patch marks the second update of 2025. The last update, in February, upgraded the game to the latest Kex Engine build, version 4.0. This new patch, however, was driven by recent player feedback.
