Sony confirms that they will continue to support the more than 110 million PlayStation 4 gamers with games that “make sense” on this console, like New God of War and Gran Turismo 7
Sony has confirmed that the new God of War – popularly known as God of War: Ragnarok and that it will arrive in 2022 – and Gran Turismo 7 will have versions for PlayStation 4 ; both games had been announced for the moment only for PlayStation 5. Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, has confirmed the news in an extensive review of the projects in preparation by Sony’s internal teams and one of the issues that is discussed is how fits the old generation of PlayStation in the plans of the company.
Hulst states that ” you can’t build a community of over 110 million PS4 users and then abandon them, right? I think that would be bad news for PS4 fans and frankly not a good business. Wherever it makes sense to develop. a title for PS4 and PS5 – for Horizon 2: Forbbiden West, the next God of War, Gran Turismo 7 – we will continue to see this. And if PS4 users want to play the game, they can. And if they want to play the PS5 version, the game will be there. ” Horizon 2, which recently showed its gameplay for the first time, had already been announced on PS4.
Of course, the answer clarifies that ” it is also very important to have demonstrations [of the potential] of PS5, hence the development of Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: A Dimension Apart are exclusive to PS5″.
Over 25 games in development by PlayStation Studios
Sony has also reiterated that the internal studios have more than 25 games underway, of which almost half are new licenses , while the rest belong to already known sagas. “New licenses are incredibly important to us. New license is new blood of games,” says Hulst, who admits that it also involves taking risks, which is why they will continue to work on the best-known brands and reinvent these games. “Games that probably wouldn’t be made anywhere else.”
He also gives a new hint of what’s new at Bend Studio: “They’re working on an exciting new license that they’re very passionate about . They’re building on the deep open-world systems they created for Days Gone. I’m really happy with Bend Studio.”
