Are you eager to dive into Resident Evil 6 on modern consoles? Probably not at the top of your list, but there’s a chance you might get the opportunity anyway.
Let’s be honest, Resident Evil 6 isn’t exactly the shining star of the beloved survival horror series. By this point in the franchise, it had shifted gears more towards action, losing some of that original survival spark. Despite this shift, the series maintains a dedicated fanbase that often rallies around Resident Evil, regardless of its ups and downs. So, for those die-hard fans who wouldn’t mind revisiting it on their Xbox Series X or S, there’s hope in the air. According to a spotting by VGC, the ESRB website suggests a fresh rating for Resident Evil 6 specifically catered to the Xbox Series consoles, meaning your X or S could soon be hosting zombies from 2012.
While the rating itself doesn’t spill many secrets, aside from humorously noting the presence of some strong language (yes, "f**k" makes the cut), the intriguing bit is the mention of the Xbox Series consoles. Originally launched for the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012, Resident Evil 6 saw ports to Xbox One and PS4 in 2016, featuring some graphical tweaks and bundled DLC. It also made its way to the Switch in 2019. This newfound ESRB listing doesn’t mention the PS5, but it’s safe to bet that if one is coming, the PS5 won’t be left in the dust. Plus, it would be rather peculiar to see a re-release for Resident Evil 6 and not for its predecessor, Resident Evil 5.
Some fans might view this as a bit of a letdown, as it suggests another remaster rather than the complete overhaul some other titles in the series have enjoyed. But for now, there’s nothing more to do than play the waiting game and see if Capcom decides to make any official announcements. Fingers crossed!
