Days Gone Remastered is set to hit the PlayStation 5 on April 25, and it’s bringing a fresh wave of excitement to both new players and returning fans. This definitive version packs in enhanced modes, new features, and leverages the advanced tech capabilities of both the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. Excitingly, new game modes like Horde Assault, Permadeath, and Speedrun are also making their way to PC through the Broken Road DLC. Whether this is your first ride or you’ve spent countless hours on the Drifter bike, there are endless adventures awaiting you. Don’t forget to check out our announcement blog for more detailed insights into all the new content and features you can look forward to.
Among the standout additions in Days Gone Remastered is the Horde Assault mode—a thrilling survival arcade experience. But before you plunge into the action, take a moment to watch the gameplay trailer for a sneak peek of what’s in store.
What does Horde Assault bring to the table?
In Horde Assault mode, you’re in for an exhilarating experience that puts your gaming skills to the test. You’ll fight tooth and nail to survive longer against larger hordes and tackle fierce foes like Breakers, Reachers, and the daunting Rager bears. As you battle on, the terrain shifts, and enemies grow tougher the longer you endure. This mode epitomizes the spirit of "This World Comes For You," enhancing the core open-world gameplay of Days Gone in a unique fashion. It’s a relentless playground where you can prove your mettle against the Freakers.
Your journey in Horde Assault kicks off in Cascade with just a sidearm in hand. Your first goal? Get through the initial wave of Freakers to reach your trusty Drifter bike. This will be your key to exploring the expansive region. As you roam, seek out Supply Boxes, scattered across the map, which hold powerful weapons that can make or break your survival chances. With over 20 weapons available, including a brand-new flamethrower absent from Story mode, each Supply Box could hold your ticket to overcoming the hordes. Keep in mind, the contents of these boxes are randomly selected and are refreshed every time you restart.
While fending off enemies, you’ll need to keep your resources in check, and completing Side Jobs can help you stock up on essential supplies while earning extra XP. With countless Freakers closing in, running out of ammo would be disastrous. And surviving long enough to reach the 30-minute mark unveils the Ultimate Horde—a never-ending onslaught that’s as formidable as it sounds. Words can only paint part of the picture; the rest is up to you to experience firsthand.
Survive and Thrive
As you climb the ranks in Horde Assault, in-mode rewards await, including unique character skins, patches, and an assortment of new Injectors, which elevate your gameplay experience significantly.
Veterans of Days Gone are no strangers to the benefits of Injectors from the main story, and this concept carries into Horde Assault with striking enhancements that alter gameplay. Throughout your journey to Legendary Survivor status, you can earn up to 24 different Injectors—12 Positive and 12 Negative. Positive Injectors amplify your score while ramping up the difficulty. In contrast, Negative Injectors incur a score penalty but enhance your survival odds with meaningful benefits.
While we won’t spoil the entire lineup, here’s a sneak peek at a couple of Injectors. The "Exploding Freakers" Injector causes Freakers to explode upon death—a boon when you’re dealing with massive hordes. On the other hand, "Wanted" pushes you to the maximum heat level right from the start. This level of challenge is only for the most dedicated players who thrive in high-pressure situations.
With Horde Assault comes a Reward path with 35 levels, each offering distinct rewards like Injectors, character skins, and cosmetic patches. Joining the character roster are six previously unplayable characters from Days Gone, including fan-favorites like O’Brian, Lisa, and Skizzo. Patches also make a comeback, serving as purely cosmetic badges on Deacon’s cut—you’ll definitely want to flaunt these with the Enhanced Photo Mode. Once obtained, these patches carry over to the main story as well. Additional rewards feature in the Reputation Phase after hitting target scores in all four regions. One coveted reward—yet to be fully revealed—revolves around a much-requested bike upgrade.
Though Horde Assault can be tackled as soon as you launch Days Gone Remastered, it’s designed as endgame content. If you’re new, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the core mechanics through the story mode first. However, if you’re keen on action, diving straight into the hordes can also be an invigorating choice. Expect an additional 10 hours of gameplay that enriches an already content-packed world, promising endless thrills in Days Gone.
