Assassin’s Creed Shadows made quite an entrance, drawing in a sizeable crowd and earning considerable acclaim—even from those who were initially wary due to its history of delays.
Recently, the Ubisoft crew behind Shadows reached out on Reddit, expressing their gratitude towards fans for sharing their thoughts about the game in much more positive tones compared to the heated debates it stirred up over the past year. These debates often included genuine concerns about the portrayal of Japanese culture voiced by the Japanese community, mixed with less constructive critics who opposed the idea of a black samurai. Meanwhile, the future of Ubisoft seemed somewhat uncertain.
Despite all this, the team behind Shadows seems to have found solace in the game’s subreddit, where they’ve been delighting in players’ discussions since release. One message, credited to the Shadows developers, read: “This weekend, many of us on the Dev Team spent time reading your reactions across the Assassin’s Creed subreddit — and we just want to say thank you. The incredible amount of love and positivity we’ve received has been truly heartwarming.”
They went on to say, “Seeing your excitement, your thoughtful reactions, and your joy has meant the world to us. After years of hard work, there’s nothing more rewarding than watching the community connect with what we’ve created. While we don’t reply directly, please know we’re listening. The entire Dev Team has been reading your posts — the celebrations, the feedback, the theories — and it’s been inspiring. It fuels us and helps us keep improving.”
The message concluded on an optimistic note, “Thank you for being part of this journey with us. This is just the beginning for Shadows, and we’re thrilled to see the game evolve with you by our side.”
The developers ended their message with a playful nod to the franchise: “Where other men blindly follow the truth, remember…nothing is true.” Long-time fans will instantly recognize this iconic line from the Assassins’ creed itself—it’s something whispered to Ezio in AC2 right before a rather unfortunate incident involving his finger.
For those who are eager to see their feedback acted upon, or perhaps want to address particular annoyances themselves, exploring mods might be an immediate solution. The community is already buzzing with tweaks and additions since the game’s launch.
