Fable, the eagerly anticipated release from Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios, has been postponed to 2026. This news came directly from Craig Duncan, Head of Xbox Game Studios, during the latest episode of the official Xbox Podcast.
In the podcast, the conversation turned to Fable around the 14-minute mark. While Duncan expressed his initial excitement about the game, he quickly mentioned the decision to “give Fable more time” by delaying its release to 2026. Unfortunately, they didn’t specify a release month.
Duncan addressed the audience’s likely disappointment but reassured everyone that the game would “be worth the wait.” He showed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a quality experience.
To sweeten the news, Duncan shared new gameplay footage from Fable during the podcast. These clips showcased the game’s world, some combat sequences, and cinematics. So, while the release date might have been pushed back, fans were treated to a glimpse of what’s to come.
Originally announced during an Xbox showcase in 2023, Fable has kept a low profile over the past couple of years, with updates being infrequent. This extension seems intended to ensure the game meets high expectations, which could ultimately be a wise move.
