In a recent update video, creative director Guangyun Chen shared exciting news about Marvel Rivals. The game’s format is shifting, with plans to introduce fresh heroes every month as its seasons become shorter.
Kicking off with season 3, Marvel Rivals will now have a two-month season instead of the previous three-month cycle. This change means we can anticipate one hero launch at the beginning and another midway through each season.
Chen explained, “After thorough discussions and evaluations, we’ve resolved to adopt a two-month season format starting in season 3, ensuring a new hero arrives every month.”
With this accelerated timeline, adjustments will be necessary. The speed at which players can earn in-game currency and unlock battle pass cosmetics will also adapt. Chen assured us that these specifics will be detailed ahead of the season 3 launch, which is slated for early July.
This rapid rollout of new heroes is significantly quicker compared to Overwatch 2, a key competitor. Blizzard typically unveils heroes every six months, with the latest, Freja, debuting soon. Although Marvel Rivals managed to introduce all four Fantastic Four members in its first season, NetEase Games clarified that was an exception. Going forward, fans can expect the addition of two heroes per season.
Looking ahead, Emma Frost is set to make her grand entrance on April 11, marking the beginning of season 2, while Ultron will arrive as part of June’s midseason update. Players can also look forward to enhanced team-up abilities, gifting options for cosmetics, popular skin recolors, and a series of balance updates with the new season.
