And so, my run of never spending money on Nintendo Switch Online has come to a close.
A favored feature among Switch users is wrapping up just after Xenoblade Chronicles X’s much-anticipated re-release, and it’s been confirmed that another won’t carry over to the upcoming Switch 2.
Tonight, Nintendo broke the news that the My Nintendo Gold program will be coming to an end on March 25, just past midnight Eastern Time. This program has been a fan favorite, offering 1% back for physical first-party games during their first release year, and a straightforward 5% back on all eShop purchases. There’s a small grace period, however, as physical games released between March 25, 2024, and their one-year expiration will still qualify. This includes titles from Endless Ocean: Luminous through Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, new hits like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will miss out.
On another note, the Switch Online Vouchers page got a bit of an update. It turns out these vouchers won’t be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2. Previously, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could grab pairs of these vouchers for $99 USD, giving them access to first-party titles. Thankfully, these vouchers will still be valid for future releases on the current Switch lineup, which includes anticipated games like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
