At the close of last month, news broke about a fresh Astro Bot PS5 console bundle slated for a March 13 release. It turns out that’s exactly what’s happening, as Sony officially unveiled the eagerly anticipated bundle today.
In a post from the official PlayStation account on what’s now known as X (previously Twitter), the new PS5 Astro Bot Bundle was showcased. This enticing package features the newer PS5 model equipped with a disc drive, alongside a DualSense controller and a copy of last year’s Game of the Year winner from The Game Awards. While specific details about the contents aren’t elaborated, these bundles generally include a digital download code instead of a physical game disc. Gamers can look forward to seeing it hit select retailers worldwide this week.
Initially, billbil-kun’s report pointed out there would be two variations of the Astro Bot PS5 bundle. One version comes with the standard console featuring a disc drive, while the other offers the digital edition. Though Sony hasn’t released official pricing details in their announcement, the leak mentions prices of $449.99 for the disc version and $399.99 for the digital one.
Astro Bot, crafted by Team Asobi, is a delightful 3D platformer and essentially a sequel to the PS5 included title, Astro’s Playroom. Its debut last year was met with widespread praise, landing an impressive average Metacritic score of 94 from 135 critic reviews. We also rated this fantastic game a perfect 10 out of 10 in our review.
Our review concluded, “In a landscape filled with formulaic sequels and hollow cash grabs, Astro Bot emerges as a beacon of brilliance—a true masterpiece overflowing with charm, ingenuity, and a deep-rooted passion for video games, whether classic or contemporary. With four months still remaining in the year, it’s hard not to feel I’ve already found my contender for game of the year.”
